Synopsis

Trixie is through being bored. Her boyfriend won’t shut up about work, she’s got a dead end job, and there’s never anything good to watch on television. One late night some strangers knock on her door, begging to be let in. She takes one look at them and sees their soulless black eyes and refuses them entry.

The next day she can’t stop thinking about them. After a little research she discovers that she’s been visited by creatures from a popular urban legend. Legend has it that if you send them away they won’t come back…but Trixie wants them to.

That night when she hears the knock she answers the door, desperate for some action. Three men with creepy blacked out eyes enter her home and announce their hunger. Trixie expects to be destroyed by the three monster men but instead they dominate her, manipulate her, and feed on her in a much sexier way than she anticipated.

Halloween LaVeau #1

Synopsis

Halloween Laveau is descended from a long line of witches. Yes, her name is Halloween. The cosmic universe is definitely playing some kind of sick joke on her. She’s the ultimate witch cliché, complete with a black cat and spooky house. Thank heavens she’s missing the warts and flying broom.

When Halloween inherits her great-aunt’s manor, she decides to put the house to good use as a bed-and-breakfast. Her first guest is the sinfully good-looking Nicolas Marco, but he’s not here for the continental breakfast. Halloween discovers a ratty old book in the attic. It’s written in an unfamiliar language, and unknown to her, the tome is cursed.

Halloween soon learns there’s a link between the book and her newfound talent as a necromancer. But her new skills come with a catch: the reanimated dead aren’t as cupcake-sweet as they were when they were alive. When a rival witch comes after the book, Halloween doesn’t know who to trust–the sexy vampire who says he wants to save the day, or the warlock who says he can destroy the book once and for all.

Halloween had better learn fast. Because when the dead start rising, only a powerful witch can put them back under.

Kelly’s Thoughts

Forever Charmed is for people who…

…like light-hearted reads with potential love triangles.
…enjoy a character who undergoes a pretty drastic evolution in abilities as the story progresses.
…don’t mind characters who are more surface than depth.
…umm…

I’m not going to pull any punches here… this book was only so-so for me. Hallie came across as pathetic part of the time because of her magical ineptitude (and her mom’s and the coven’s treatment of her was weirdly off-putting for entirely different reasons). Gaining her power upgrade was… I don’t know. She seemed awfully cavalier about suddenly being able to do anything she set her mind to and she didn’t really invest any time into figuring out WHY she could do all these things she couldn’t do before.

It could totally be a me-thing (cozies and light-hearted books of this ilk are hit and miss for me depending on mood), but I wasn’t loving the entire dynamic and will probably pass on future installments.

Oh, please. Who am I kidding? BAD THINGS ARE COMING WITH THIS CRAZY SPACE INFESTATION. Things will get much worse before they get better (if they DO get better) for those who survived to the end of this book. Crazy space tentacles take NO SURVIVORS. And they want to spread.
